But the thing is, no matter how careful you are, you will inevitably end up staining your carpet one way or another, especially if you have kids or furry friends at home. But you do not have to worry because cleaning a carpet stain, despite common misconceptions, is not that difficult.

You can also apply this with relatively small stains so that the stain stays small and becomes easy to remove.

Step #2: Blot, Do Not Rub

Attempting to remove a carpet stain by rubbing will only make the stain bigger and harder to remove. On the other hand, Blotting is a much more effective method of removing carpet stains.

When you want to clean a carpet stain with a cloth or rag dampened with warm water, you will want to gently blot it against that stain to remove as much of it as possible. This way, the stain will not get bigger and will be much easier to remove.

Step #3: Apply a Cleaning Solution

If blotting does not work and the stain will not budge, it is time to apply a cleaning solution. There are many available cleaning solutions for removing carpet stains. But if you do not have any on hand, you can always opt for mild non-bleach liquid laundry detergent in small amounts (1 teaspoon to be exact) to apply onto the stain.

Once applied, you can use your cloth or rag to blot the stain with the liquid laundry detergent and easily remove the stain.

Once you have removed the stain, mark the spot on the carpet where the stain previously was with a cloth or rag dampened with warm water to remove any remaining liquid laundry detergent to prevent your carpet from soiling.

You may also want to try instant carpet cleaning solutions that will decrease the time you spend cleaning up.

Suppose you want to opt for a different cleaning solution to clean your carpet stain.

In that case, you could always try everyday household cleaning items such as dish soap, vinegar, and baking soda, which have all shown to be effective in cleaning stains on the carpet.

Step #4: Let Paper Towels Suck Up The Rest of the Stain

Once you have followed and applied steps 1-3, there might still be traces of the stain on your carpet. Do not worry; this next step will take care of that. Once you are finished doing steps 1-3, place paper towels on top of the section of your carpet that was stained and place a weight above them.

Leave the paper towels overnight. Doing this will allow the paper towels to suck up any remaining traces of a stain on your carpet.

Step #5: Finishing Touches

If you want to be thorough and remove the slightest traces of a stain on your carpet, you can do so with these finishing touches.

Use an old toothbrush and gently brush the fibers on the stained spot on your carpet to remove the remaining traces of a stain on your carpet.

You can also spray mild disinfectant alcohol on the stain and let it sit there for five minutes before gently blotting dry.

What To Remember

The five simple steps above have all been shown to be effective methods to remove carpet stains of any nature. So whether it be a coffee stain, red wine, gravy, sauce, salsa, or a juice stain, you can follow the provided steps to remove it and get your carpet back to its previous clean state.

Though the steps above effectively remove carpet stains, they cannot precisely prevent future stains. Practicing preventive measures to avoid staining your carpet again is still the best defense against carpet stains. Make sure you know how to defend your carpet against stains.

Having an instant carpet cleaner ready always helps in reducing the time you spend cleaning up the mess.

If you are having a party, get-together, or just having friends over, practice pre-emptive measures such as covering your carpet in carpet protection film that is cheap, easy to use, and effective in protecting carpets against spills and stains.

If you are in a situation where you know there is a high possibility of your carpet getting stained, act fast; you will not have to remove any stains from your carpet if there are not any stains to remove in the first place.
